TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION

Table Tennis events will take place from 28th May to 1st June 2019.

PARTICIPATION IN THE TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION

Each participating country can enter:

■ one (1) team for the Men’s team event

■ one (1) team for the Women’s team event

■ a maximum of two (2) athletes in Men’s singles event

■ a maximum of two (2) athletes in Women’s sin-gles event

■ two (2) athletes, i.e. one (1) double in Men’s doubles event

■ two (2) athletes, i.e. one (1) double in Women’s doubles event

Each team can be composed of a maximum three (3) players. There is the possibility of replacing a player for the singles and for the doubles events, only if chosen among those three (3) registered for the team event, even if not due to illness or injury.

 

VENUE AND EQUIPMENT

All matches will be played at the SC Župa, Tivat. In the venue four (4) tables will be placed in the main hall and four (4) tables will be placed in a warm-up area nearby.

Matches will be played on STAG competition tables, colour blue. The balls used: STAG, colour white; Flooring: Tarket.

 

TECHNICAL MEETING TBD

The time and place of the Technical Meeting is 27th of May from 13:30 to 15:45 in Budva.

 

UMPIRES BRIEFING

Umpires briefing will take place on May 27th (time and place TBD). Umpires briefing will be conducted by the Referee.

 

EVENTS

Team event

Two groups will be formed – A and B. Each team can be composed of a maximum of three players. Seed-ing in the groups will be arranged in snake system, according to results from previous Games (2017).

Team tournament will be played in the following format: two singles matches, followed by a doubles match, and two singles matches, i.e.: A-X, B-Y, dou-bles, A-Y, B-X. Team match is won when one team achieves three wins (best of five). Groups are played in Round Robin system.

Two best teams from each group advances to the semifinals. Semifinals will be played in the following format: A1-B2; B1-A2.

Semifinal winners will proceed to the finals. Teams that lost in the semifinal will be ranked as 3rd in the event (two bronze medals).

All matches will be played in best of five games sys-tem.

Doubles event

Two groups will be formed – A and B. Doubles will be placed into groups according to the snake system according to ITTF ranking (May 2019) by counting the ranking points (not the position) of the individual ranking of the 2 players. Non-ranked players will be given the rank of the last player of the ITTF ranking list.

Doubles can be composed exclusively of players from the same country. Doubles groups will be played in Round Robin system.

Two best doubles from each group advance to the semifinals. Semifinals will be played in the following format: A1-B2; B1-A2.

Semifinal winners will proceed to the finals. Teams that lost in the semifinal will be ranked as 3rd in the event (two bronze medals).

All matches will be played in best of five games sys-tem.

Singles event

Four groups will be formed – A, B, C and D. Four best players will be first seeded in groups based on their ITTF ranking, while the remaining players will be seeded into the groups according to the snake system (2 by 2) according to the ITTF ranking (May 2019). Players without individual ranking will be ran-domly placed into groups. Players from same associ-ation cannot be in the same group.

Each group will be played in Round Robin system. Two best players from each group will advance to quarterfinals. The format will be as follows:

A1 will be seeded as No.1; B1 will be seeded as No.2; C1 and D1 will be drawn to No.3 and No.4 seeds. First four seeds will play against A2, B2, C2 and D2 – but, not against players from their same country, and not against the players from their qual-ifiction group.

The quarterfinal winners will proceed to semifinals. Semifinal winners will play in the final. Players who lost in the semifinals will be ranked 3rd in the event (2 bronze medals).

All matches will be played in best of five games sys-tem.

 

CALCULATION OF POSITIONS IN A GROUP

In the Round Robin, two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a defeat and zero point (0) for an unfinished or un-played match or for any team or player who breaks the rules.

If more than two (2) players, pairs or teams obtain the same number of match points, their relative positions shall be determined only by the results of the matches between them; by considering successively the num-bers of match points, the ratios of wins to defeats first in individual matches (for a team event), games and points, as far as necessary to resolve the order. The ITTF Regulations are fully applicable.

UMPIRES AND REFEREES

The Organizing Committee will nominate one Inter-national Referee. For all the other information, see Art. 3.2 & 3.4 of the common rules for all sports.

DRAWS

A draw for all three events will be organized imme-diately after the Technical Meeting, according to the procedure stated in section 6.7.6 Events of this Man-ual.

COMPETITOR UNIFORMS

All participants must wear the uniform of their coun-try which must comply with the ITTF Rules and Regu-lations as well as with GSSE Rules and Regulations. All players must carry at least two sets of shirts in different colours, one of which has to be in dark and the other one in light colour. If both teams or players in a singles or doubles match have a colour of shirts which is not clearly different, the umpire will conduct a draw.

Players from the same country shall wear uniform clothing in doubles and teams. Back identifications with country code and number will be provided for each player.
