The reason for her visit is the Games of the Small States of Europe, which will be held in our country from May 27 to June 1.
Our Slovenian guest paid a visit to the competition areas and accommodation capacities, along with Igor Vusurovic and Boris Sekulic, the director and deputy of the GSSE "Montenegro 2019". She also met with the members of the organizational team, who oversee specific areas – competition, accommodation, transportation, marketing, media etc.
On the last day of her stay, she spoke with the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee Dusan Simonovic and stated that she carries positive impressions from Montenegro.
"My first impression is that everyone in the organizational team knows what to do and how the competition should unfold. These are people who have experience with large competitions, who now undergo something they have gone through, but from another standpoint. Montenegro organizes such a large sports event for the first time, it is a first time it hosts a multi-sport competition, which is a new and big challenge", said Leskovsek-Mekveri.
She says that she is satisfied with the work that has been done so far.
"I did not visit all the competition areas, but the hosts explained me in detail about the situation these are in, so there is no fear and risk that something will go wrong. Accommodation capacities are also absolutely prepared, which is very important. Now, two months before the beginning, there is work to be done concerning specific details in all sectors, additional work and obligations for more people. This is because communication and coordination at this stage of preparation, as well as at the competition itself, are very important factors. There is sufficient knowledge exists, the plan exists, now comes the stage of realization."
Leskovsek-Mekveri has plenty of experience in organizing large competitions, her first project was at the WOG in Salt Lake City 2002, and the final at the WOG in Pyongyang in 2018.
"It is normal that not everything will be 100 percent as planned and imagined. Simply, this is the case in all competitions, because unforeseen circumstances can always happen. It is important, however, that everything is well planned and that there is always a way out of the problem, or another approach. Furthermore, the participants at the GSSE participate in the Olympic Games, so they are aware of how to behave and what to expect when they come to Budva and Montenegro. Some things are universal between these two events, they are organized according to the same principle. But some things may prove, maybe not more difficult, but certainly more demanding when organizing GSSE in comparison to the Olympics, because the organization of the Olympic Games involves a larger number of people, greater finances, years of preparation and a tremendous experience. Nonetheless, to conclude – I have a good feeling that the GSSE in Montenegro will play out in the best order because the organizational team is comprised of good, valuable and experienced people.", said Leskovsek-Mekveri.
